4/21/07 Auctions of Note: CoCo 2s, Drives, and Hard Drive System!

Auctions of Note for April 21st, 2007:

eBay: VINTAGE Tandy TRS 80 Color Computer 2 LOADED NO RESERVE (item 130104018628 end time Apr-28-07 13:59:17 PDT)

Okay, first off, this seller did a pretty darn good job with the posting.  It's complete and pretty, but not in an annoying way like so many others.  They listed model numbers and provided plenty of pictures (not too big) with enough detail.  That alone is probably worth a mention. :)  The first gem in this lot is the 26-3127B CoCo 2, still in the box with the manuals.  I'm actually saving some of the pictures for reference, so that I can match everything up with my 3127B for the collection. (A have the CoCo and original box, but now I know what manual and reference card goes with it. heh!)  This is a great 64K CoCo 2 and my personal favorite, since it was the one I had as a lad. Nothing like a little bias, eh?   It's claim to fame is that it can do true lower case when popped into all RAM mode and with a few pokes. I wrote a little bit about it here, ages ago.  Also of note is the 26-3029 disk drive and controller (later rebranded as the Tandy FD-500) and a collection of disks.  No precise word on what's on the disk, other than the OS-9 Boot disk, but the others are labeled games 1-4.  Could be some interesting bits on those, if you're into the blind grab bag thing.  Over all a nice system for use or for the permanent collection.

eBay: TRS-80 Color Computer 2 - CoCo 2 - Vintage (item 200102483789 end time Apr-28-07 12:20:41 PDT)

A 26-3134.  Auction says it's still in the box, but the text is lifted from a web site (Glen's I believe.)  No mention of manuals, memory or BASIC ROM.  Price is a bit high as well.  This model generally runs $13 to $22 depending on configuration.  Still, these machines are noted with model number so infrequently, I figured I'd call it out.  Plus, CoCo 2s have gone for a lot more recently.  I have no idea... :)

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Color Computer & Hard Drive Controller (item 250107022788 end time Apr-27-07 18:41:35 PDT)

Here's an pretty darn interesting lot of particular note to the collector.  The big Digital brand drives in their own case are pretty cool.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about 'em.  They are apparently being driven, however, by a Tandy Hard Drive controller.  The auction doesn't have a close up of the controller, but that certainly appears to be it.  (Ask questions before bidding, of course.)  If so, it's a pretty rare beast. I only recall seeing it once before and that one went for some crazy cash.  Not mentioned in the text is a blue floppy disk holder.  Wonder if there's anything in it.  Also, the rare Destruction Derby pak, with box and manual is present.  Over all an intriguing lot.

eBay: 2 Vintage Computer Games, TRS-80, Color Cubes, Polaris (item 110117272946 end time Apr-26-07 17:04:19 PDT)

The rare Color Cubes pak, complete on it's original clamshell package with manual.  Also the popular Polaris pak, also apparently complete.  They look to be in pretty good condition, as well.

eBay: TC^3 SCSI Controller and drive system - Color Computer (item 110117265941 end time Apr-26-07 16:38:08 PDT)

Oh man, who wouldn't want this rig? :)  This is a TC^3 SCSI system from Cloud 9 Tech sporting a Iomega Jaz drive (1 Gig with two carts) and a CD-ROM drive.  All packed up nice with a power supply and custom enclosure. Includes the Cloud 9 SuperDriver.  The seller has even offered to load the drive with NitrOS-9 of your flavor.  Go on and bid.  You know you want to. :)

eBay: TRS-80 Color Computer fd-502 floppy system (item 110117143770 end time Apr-26-07 12:42:42 PDT)

From the same seller, a very nice floppy set up.  Set includes an FD-502 controller and two 5 1/4" double sided, 40-track, 360K drives. While not necessarily collectible, highly worth a mention since you don't see this configuration come up very often.  For the modern CoCo, this is the base minimum for storage.  You could build one yourself, but here it is all packaged up and ready to roll.

eBay: TANDY AND RADIO SHACK LOT OF 14 GAME CARTRIDGES (item 330110992680 end time Apr-23-07 22:55:51 PDT)

Nice fat lot of paks.  If you're just starting your collection, there's plenty of play in this bunch.  Androne is particularly rare in any condition.

------

Thought it would be interesting to combine the posts for Sales and Still for Sale together.  Just for awhile to see how it goes.  This won't be near as complete as the old listings, but I'll try to hit the most interesting sales.  Here goes:

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Color Computer 1 Silver case, system (item 260107940047 end time Apr-21-07 14:06:46 PDT)

Pretty sweet original CoCo set up.  Clearly upgraded to heck.  Bet this one has some stories behind it. :)  Went for US$53.02.

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Color Computer Model 2 16K Basic in BOX (item 230119088629 end time Apr-21-07 11:45:19 PDT)

Here's a 26-3124 at 16K (see above) that went for $20.50.  Bumped the price guide price a little, but we'll watch the other one and see how it goes.

eBay: Two TRS-80 Deluxe Joystick (item 190102131112 end time Apr-18-07 17:41:36 PDT)

Holy crap!  Someone really needed some sticks!

eBay: Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 2 (item 300100594252 end time Apr-16-07 19:34:45 PDT)

Wow!  A 26-3127 in the box.  Has the Intro manual, but no BASIC manuals.  Looks a bit yellow, too.  Ended with Buy It Now at US$55.00!  Very slight adjustment to the Price Guide.

eBay: Hard Drive controller for TRS-80 Coco Color computer! (item 230115504019 end time Apr-16-07 14:31:02 PDT)

Half way figured this to go for more, but the description wasn't terribly clear.  Still pretty sure this is a floppy controller only.  No idea how to list this in the Price Guide, so I didn't.

eBay: TRS-80 32K COCO EXT BASIC SER# 0001628 MFD OCT 1982 (item 270107568647 end time Apr-13-07 08:27:12 PDT)

This didn't sell?  Go figure. :P

eBay: TRS-80 Tandy 128K Color Computer 3 w/ Disk Drive FD 501 (item 300101161436 end time Apr-12-07 11:51:43 PDT)

One of the few CoCo 3s we've had in the last couple of weeks.  This one went with an FD-501 and controller for about US$50.00 on Buy It Now.  Not a bad deal at all!

eBay: TRS-80 Coco 'Speech/Sound Program Pak' (item 130097545100 end time Apr-11-07 17:15:13 PDT)

Not the highest we've ever seen this one sell, but at US$62.00, it may still be the hottest frequently selling piece of CoCo hardware.  Still, Price Guide price for Very Fine adjusted down a bit.

4/20/07 Sale of Note

Okay, I stopped doing Sales of Note due to lack of time and reader interest (makes updating the Price Guide more frequently, too).  But some I'm just going to have to call out :)

eBay: New Tandy Coco 3 512K memory card (item 280104637685 end time Apr-20-07 17:01:26 PDT)

This original Tandy 512K upgrade for the CoCo 3, new in box, went for a whopping $100.00!!!  This is the first new one that's come up in the last couple of years, so we're talking a pretty rare item here.  Hope the collector that landed it enjoys having it. heh!  Wow.

4/18/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of Note for April 18th, 2007:

A few goodies to sink your paycheck into...

eBay: Vintage Tandy Computer 64K Video Game GHANABWANA SEALED (item 280105120046 end time Apr-22-07 11:34:29 PDT)

This great game is actually getting pretty rare.  Haven't seen it come up in awhile.  Huge CoCo 1/2 fun from a Steve Bjork classic.  There was a fix for this one at some point that was published in The Rainbow, so that it would work and display in color on the CoCo 3.  If anyone wants the patch, I'll try to dig it up.  If you don't have this game in your collection, get in there and bid.  No CoCo should be without it.

eBay: Tandy COCO TRS FD 501 Disk Drive cartridge (item 250106220835 end time Apr-23-07 19:50:14 PDT)

Not in particularly collectible condition, but a good pak to have.  It is the only Tandy controller to have gold contacts.  If you need disk drives for your CoCo, this is the first stop.

eBay: DISTO SC-II OS-9 original disk for TRS-80 Tandy CoCo (item 190104388371 end time Apr-24-07 22:07:50 PDT)

This is the OS-9 software drivers for the Disto Super Controller II.  Pretty rare stuff, but you'll need a Super Controller II and OS-9 to use it.

eBay: AutoTerm 3.2D original disk for TRS-80 Tandy CoCo (item 190104387739 end time Apr-24-07 22:02:27 PDT)

An original AutoTerm disk for RS-DOS.  Again, a pretty dang rare program.  No instruction manual, alas.  This one seems to have multiple versions for different CoCo system setups on it.  Hard to make out, but appears to be 32K and 64K versions at the very least.

eBay: Black Sanctum on original disk for TRS-80 Tandy CoCo (item 190104387278 end time Apr-24-07 21:58:38 PDT)

A very old and very rare Black Sanctum disk for the CoCo.  This looks like the very early first version (possibly).  Can't make out the label.  Again, no manual, but definitely a prize.

eBay: TANDY FOR COLOR COMPUTER 2 OR 3 MIND ROLLER GAME (item 300102474372 end time Apr-23-07 16:42:05 PDT)

Cool game and in Very Good for Price Guide standards.

eBay: VINTAGE TANDY DISK DRIVE FD 500 (item 330110074577 end time Apr-23-07 10:29:46 PDT)

According to the description, a complete FD-500 in the box. No pictures, unfortunately.  Still, the price is right, though I would contact the seller regarding shipping, as there appears to be some confusion.

4/14/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for April 14th, 2007:

While things have been a tad slow in the Color Computer auctions of late, there's still been some nice items popping up.  And for anyone looking to grab some stuff to use on your "working" system, there's some great deals to be had lately as well!  Here's a couple that have caught my eye recently and why.

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Color Computer 1 Silver case, system (item 260107940047 end time Apr-21-07 14:06:46 PDT)

Beautiful.  A classic gray as a complete system.  The seller mentions it still has the 4K RAM button on it, but considering the upgrades apparent, I wouldn't be surprised if it had more.  If you need more RAM, be sure to ask the seller to PRINT MEM the sucker before bidding.  (I just turned a BASIC command into a verb! ha!)  This is probably an early 26-3001 model.  Note that there's a small LED in the center that is a user add-on.  Also included is what appears to be the rare HJL keyboard.  Very sweet.  The drive is a 26-3022, the original CoCo drive, with matching controller and cable (misidentified as an FD-500 controller).  Drive and computer appear to come with the original boxes.  I suspect this will be a fun computer to explore and play with!

eBay: New Tandy Coco 3 512K memory card (item 280104637685 end time Apr-20-07 17:01:26 PDT)

Super rare, unused, Tandy 512L memory card!  Wow!  Good looking and well worth looking at, whether you slap it in your CoCo 3 or put it under glass and ogle it. :)

eBay: TRS-80 COLOR COMPUTER 2 BY RADIO SHACK never out box (item 150111949986 end time Apr-19-07 19:00:00 PDT)

Brand spanking new CoCo 2.  Well, pretty darn close anyhow.  Since it only has the Color BASIC book, I'd assume it's that only.  Probably 16K.  Catalog number would be impossible to guess at, since many CoCo 2 models had that keyboard and RAM.  Judging from the manual cover, I'd suggest a mid to late model 16K Color BASIC.  Inquire if interested.

eBay: Tandy CoCo 3 Predator Game (item 300101842837 end time Apr-17-07 19:42:34 PDT)

From the photos, a complete and decent looking copy of the Predator pak for the CoCo 3.  Don't have this one myself, so I can't recommend it for game playing, but looks good if you need it for the collection.

4/9/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of Note for April 9th, 2006:

Ah, the ups and downs of CoCo Collecting in the Spring!  It rains and pours, then it's quiet and calm.  I don't think I've had this few items on my watch list in quite awhile.  Still there are a few items to get excited about. Let's have a look.

eBay: 5 Rainbow Magazines 84/85 TRS-80 Tandy Color Computer (item 330107901914 end time Apr-16-07 17:58:02 PDT)

These caught my eye because, well, I don't have them. heh... I wouldn't mind seeing a few smaller lots of magazines like this.  It would make filling in a collection a bit easier.

eBay: Hard Drive controller for TRS-80 Coco Color computer! (item 230115504019 end time Apr-16-07 14:31:02 PDT)

A floppy controller with ADOS loaded in it from Hard Drive Specialists.  Pretty dang rare item.  Seller mentions this might also be a hard drive controller, but doesn't look like it to me.  Appears to be wired for dual horizontal floppies, though with ADOS on it, they probably run double sided 40-track, or perhaps even 80-track drives (can't see how wide the ends of the ribbon cables are... looks like the cable to a 5 1/4" drive).

In the "What The???" Department:

eBay: TRS-80 32K COCO EXT BASIC SER# 0001628 MFD OCT 1982 (item 270107568647 end time Apr-13-07 08:27:12 PDT)

Okay, granted, Brian already mentioned this one AND it's been thoroughly ridiculed on the CoCo mailing list (I may not read it, but I do skim it), but seriously...  Dude actually paid money to list this. heh.

eBay: 6 Vintage Tandy Stereo Music Synthesizer Coco 26-3143 (item 200097824953 end time Apr-14-07 14:33:39 PDT)

Big lot of in the box Orchestra-90ccs. Not sure what you would do with this many, but if you were inclined to have a bunch of them, here ya go.

Quick update - I won an auction!!!

First off, here's the auction I won:

Radio Shack Color Computer Software - LOGO + More

This was really better than advertised. The Color Logo disk doesn't even look like it's seen a disk drive. And yes good Capt, it IS a Tandy Home Education Systems product. Comes with a study guide and all. I have absolutely NO idea what I'll do with it, but, it's cool anyway.

CGD Plus comes with the manual, an original floppy with serial, several backup floppies, as well as font and graphics disks as well. just wish I would have remembered to bring it home from work so i could make back ups on 3.5" disks, and try it out!!!

Kid writer looks to be original also. I have no idea what it does, but, it's in good shape. :)

Now, on to the auctions;

Lot of 3 Tandy CoCo Color Computer 1 / 2 vintage system

Looks like 2 generations of the CoCo1 and a CoCo2. I do not consider these to be collectible, but they are certainly usable.

Kings Quest 3 For the TRS 80 Color Computer

Looks to be close to collectible as most if not all of it is there. Be warned, the shipping cost is out-fraking-ragous.

And from the totally fraking stupid file comes this:

TRS-80 32K COCO EXT BASIC SER# 0001628 MFD OCT 1982

Alright, if this were a dev system, or CoCo numero-uno, or a CoCo3 that Sock master found the elusive 256 color mode, I could see a couple hundred dollars. IMHO, this guy needs to be take out behind the woodshed and beaten with an Apple ][ and C-64. I would ordinarily be a little pissy and not quite this vocal, however, he actually RAISED the original starting bid from $500 to $800. My feeling is this guy is a relative n00b and has actually been lingering around the CoCo chatrooms and is trying to elicit a response...

10 Rainbow on Tapes for TRS-80 Coco color computer!

Here's 10 R.O.T. I get curious, or maybe it's suspicious, every time I see a reserve auction on vintage computer stuff. If they have minimum amount they'll take for it, why not just put it up??

For those who do not frequent the CoCo Hut Bulletin Board (and shame on you), a few weeks ago I started doing some research on floppy drives for the CoCo. Let's face it, the old 360k 5 1/4" floppies and drives are getting a little hard to fine and long in the tooth. And finding a true 720k 3.5" drive is an impossibility, unless you want to pay >$50 per drive. To that end, I've been checking every 3.5" 1.44mb floppy I can find for certain features. Basically what I've been looking for is whether the drive can be used as a drive 0, 1, 2 or 3. Go check out the thread, 3.5" Floppy drives with jumpers... and see what I've found so far. Keep in mind, this is a WIP so hopefully the list will grow.

Later,

(B)

4/4/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for April 4th, 2007:

It has been a bit slow the last week, but there's a few items to whet your CoCo collecting whistle. :)

eBay: TRS-80 Coco 'Speech/Sound Program Pak' (item 130097545100 end time Apr-11-07 17:15:13 PDT)

Appears to be a beautiful condition Speech/Sound Pak in the box with manual.  This is the newer, silver label version. (The older one has a black label. They are identical, I believe.)

eBay: TRS-80 Coco 'Orchestra-90' Music Synthesizer (item 130097545078 end time Apr-11-07 17:13:31 PDT)

Gorgeous Orchestra-90cc!   Also complete with manuals.

eBay: 1980 TRS 80 computer complete in original box, v. good. (item 260104697076 end time Apr-14-07 16:01:59 PDT)

Identified as such, these are fairly rare.  This is apparently a Color BASIC machine (probably 16K) with manual and in the box.  The seller doesn't identify it, so I'm going by the lack of ECB manual.  Be sure to ask, if interested.

eBay: TRS-80 COLOR COMPUTER PROGRAM : CARD GAMES (item 110111025494 end time Apr-10-07 20:57:10 PDT)

These tapes are fairly rare, but alas the manual is a photocopy.  Still, if you need them for the collection, or enjoy cards games on the CoCo, this isn't a bad deal.

eBay: Radio Shack TRS 80 Color Computer Color Disk Graphics. (item 280100960100 end time Apr-09-07 20:41:53 PDT)

The disk version of the pak program.  Haven't seen this in a very long time.  Is it collectible?  We'll see.

eBay: Radio Shack TRS 80 Color Computer Color Scripsit c1982. (item 280100958778 end time Apr-09-07 20:37:04 PDT)

Appears to be complete.  This is Tandy's word processor for the CoCo 1/2.  If you're looking for one to use, you can do better.  If you're looking for the collection, this is worth a look since it doesn't come too frequently.

eBay: Ulti-MusE lll for The Color Computer (item 260103577843 end time Apr-08-07 20:12:35 PDT)

Exceedingly rare program with a bonus.  This one also includes the Glenside MIDI interface!   If the collector's are out, this'll go big.  I don't think they are... heh... but maybe.

Angel's Luck,

Capt

The Watchdog Biteth... :)

Well, Since Cris mentioned it, I'll start off with this one:

NIB Tandy Color Computer 2 - RARE

Okay, as much of a fan as I am of the CoCo, no CoCo2 by itself is worth this. I have two that I didn't pay more than $12 each for. Granted, they were not boxed. I'd say maybe $30-$35 for a NIB CoCo2. $75.00 is in the range of 512k CoCo3. That is all.

Tandy 128K Color Computer 3 w/Original Box and Manual

Here's one I'm keeping an eye on myself. Looks to be a decent semi-complete CoCo3 system If you sole purpose is collection, this one may not be for you as Cris mentioned, it appears to have no cables. Myself, I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

RadioShack TRS-80 Color Computer II, 16 K with Magazine

The $5 starting bid is okay. The box is ratty as hades, and, his shipping prices seem a little high. I got a CoCO3 and MPI sent to me last year for less than his Priority mail price. If you can swallow the shipping, then the price is good. However, this one is far from collectible.

And in other news...

Yeah, Cris is right again. I pretty much prefer usable stuff. I'll buy collectible if the price is right (meaning if Cris isn't around trying to bid on it as well :p ). But, since I like to do repacks, I do not want to mess with the pristine equipment. I'd prefer scuffs, nicks and scratches since I'll be gutting the computer anyway. Now keep in mind, if I do come across a collectible piece, it stays that way. I've got a pristine FD-502 still in it's box. That's where it'll stay...

Speaking of repacks... what does a CoCo3 + THIS  equal? Stay tuned, it might just happen... :)

3/29/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of Note for March 29th, 2007:

Got an email asking why I didn't hit all TRS-80 and Tandy Color Computer stuff that appears on eBay.  In particularly, the question was in regard to stuff listed outside of the TRS-80 listings.  I'll update the Collector FAQ here soon, but it's worth going over the purpose of this blog again anyhow, since I don't think I have in, oh, a couple of years. :)

The "Auctions of Note" listings, posted by yours truly, deal mostly with collectible stuff of interests to people who are serious about collecting and preserving original equipment and software packages.  Many times they WILL have the dual function of being of interest to those looking for stuff to use on their CoCos.  Most of the time, in fact.  And occasionally, I do point out an item or two that is of primary interest to the user, not necessarily to the collector.  Mainly, though, my posts are oriented toward the collector, and my comments tend toward that crowd.

Brian will often post primarily on usable stuff he finds interesting or of particular relevance at the moment.  Also, where I tend toward a happy, buy it anyway, damn the cost attitude, he tends to act more as a watchdog regarding those really ludicrous auctions. :)  Those posts are always worth reading!  Brian is hands on and visiting his personal blog, CoCo/Model III Repak, is a CoCo-life changing experience.

Briza is kind of the "collector at large" and will occasionally post news and related information. For a great News and Software site, be sure to check out his blog at CoCo Downunder.  Briza may (okay, does) have the most comprehensive CoCo game collection on the planet.  He's one of the two widely recognized experts on vintage CoCo games (the other is L. Curtis Boyle, who's CoCo games list is required bookmarking for any CoCoist).  If you need info on a game, ask him.  He'll not only know, but will most likely have the game as well. :)

Of course, there's no rules the contributors are bound by, nor are the limited to subject, other than the broad "Anything about or relevant to collecting, buying or selling Color Computers and CoCo stuff."  So all of the above is just "usually."  It's pretty much anything goes.  The idea hear is to give multiple viewpoints on collecting Color Computers, regardless of why YOU collect.  You may just be in it for the games.  Maybe you just like to tinker with the CoCo.  Maybe you're a die hard gotta have it collector.  Or, more likely, you're some or all of the above.  Hopefully, one of us will be able to give you information you can use in some part of your CoCo endeavors.

Of course, we're always looking for additional viewpoints and contributors.  And hopefully in the future, we'll be able to add a few more.  Drop an email and let us know how we're doing, what you'd like to see, or any questions as well.  Always happy to get them!

Now, on to the auctions...

Not a whole lot of notable items out there, but the amount of CoCo stuff on eBay continues to be strong.  If you're building a system, or just starting a collection, you couldn't have picked a better time to jump into the fray.  Activity in the CoCo listings is also up and there's a ton of interest flirting about on the net in the Color Computer.  Tune in and stay tuned!

eBay: VINTAGE TANDY COLOR COMPUTER DISK DRIVE FD501 (item 160101501095 end time Apr-01-07 17:27:51 PDT)

As more and more CoCo 3s are selling, more and more people are trying to acquire drives for them.  As such, drive prices appear to on the rise. At the very least, I'd call the prices and sales "healthy."  I'll start listing them as "hot items," regardless of condition.  This is a nice looking FD-501 with both the controller pak and the manual. This is a single sided, 35-track drive.  It's my personal favorite of the vintage drives but that's probably because it's the one I use. :)  It's also easy to add a second drive.  Just grab another FD-501, pop open the case, and slap the new drive in there.  Hook up the power and flat cable and you're good to go.  No jumpers or terminators or other silliness to deal with.

eBay: Radio Shack Color Computer Software - LOGO + More (item 110108859901 end time Apr-04-07 21:27:52 PDT)

Here's a lot of somewhat rare CoCo Goodness.  First up is CoCo Graphics Designer Plus from Zebra Systems.  If you've ever read a CoCo magazine from the mid to late 80s, you've seen this advertised. :)  The seller also mentions a "bunch of related disks."  Probably the font and/or clipart disks, but inquire if it's important.   Kid Writer is one of those on my "keep meaning to get" lists.  This is not a complete version.  The original game in one of those heavy plastic cases, I believe.  Finally, is Color Logo on disk.  On disk? you say! Wasn't that a pak?  Yup.  See, here's the thing.  Tandy did a whole line of "other" software under the brand "Tandy Home Education Systems."  There were a bunch of these titles over the years and they came in these big ugly brown binders.  I've got a big pile of them around here somewhere.  Many of these titles were also marketed in other formats (tape or pak, for example) for sale as a consumer product, with different packaging.  I don't know for certain if this is the same Logo as the pak.  Hopefully someone can confirm that.  Although if it is, it would a) rare and b) nifty to have Color Logo with disk access available (the pak saves to tape).  Don't mistake this for D.L Logo for OS-9.  While this may be that Logo, it doesn't look like it.  Hopefully more information about this disk version of Color Logo will be forthcoming.

eBay: TRS-80 COLOR COMPUTER 3 DISK PROGRAM : SOUNDTRAX (item 110108831489 end time Apr-04-07 19:22:12 PDT)

In our Wet Your Pants in Excitement category today, we have what appears to be a full and complete copy of SoundTrax sound sequencer for the CoCo 3.  Drool Factor 5, Mr. Sulu!  Haven't seen this one before, so no comment other to point out that it might just be highly collectible. :)

eBay: TRS-80 Color Computer DISK DRIVE FD-502 Tandy NR (item 130095262879 end time Apr-04-07 05:32:20 PDT)

Another nice drive, this one an FD-502.  This is a good one on account (and someone correct me if I'm wrong here) it has 40-track drives built in.  All you need is a DOS (NitrOS-9, HDB-DOS, ADOS, etc.) that can access 40-tracks.  No manual, alas, but it does include the program pak.

eBay: TRS-80 Color Computer OPERATING DISKS EDTASM demos more (item 130095266437 end time Apr-04-07 05:48:58 PDT)

While this isn't the best condition one I've seen (though it's actually better than mine.. heh), this one is rare enough to warrant a look. It has the original disks and what looks like some other disks someone used while learning to use the system.  The binder appears in tact and the manual looks nice with bright colors.  This package, and those like it, is notorious for yellowing and getting messed up real bad.  Not one of the better packaging schemes Tandy came up with over the years.  For that reason, this one gets snaps for being, at the very least, presentable.

eBay: Tandy 128K Color Computer 3 w/Original Box and Manual (item 270104394467 end time Apr-03-07 15:41:21 PDT)

Good looking CoCo 3.  Appears to have the box and manuals, but the cables do not appear to be present, pictured, or mentioned.  Worth a question if you're interested.  If you're going to use it (and you know you will) you'll probably use good old A/V cables anyhow (at least until you're ready for a real display... heh).

Brian's busy putting his repak together, so I'll play watch dog here for a bit... ;)

eBay: NIB Tandy Color Computer 2 - RARE (item 270104316407 end time Apr-01-07 11:38:16 PDT)

This is what I call optimism. It's not NIB.  It is, however, listed in the Vintage PCs section (instead of under TRS-80s). I really wouldn't be surprised if it sold for this price.  Really.

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Radio Shack Color Basic Computer in Box+ (item 110105782822 end time Mar-27-07 16:22:48 PDT)

Sweet looking Color Computer in original box. Comes with a couple of extras but the condition of the computer itself is probably of most interest.

eBay: TANDY 128K COLOR COMPUTER 3 (NEW IN BOX) (item 150103944990 end time Mar-29-07 18:04:33 PDT)

An apparently pretty darn close to NIB CoCo 3. Seller does not mention manuals or cables, so ask questions.

eBay: 1990 Rainbow on Disk Complete! TRS-80 Coco, rare! (item 230107428604 end time Mar-27-07 15:07:37 PDT)

This seller has some complete runs of The Rainbow on Disk. Be sure to hit Seller's Other Items for a complete list.

eBay: Tandy Deluxe Pistol Grip Joystick / Mint in Box (item 250096718291 end time Mar-27-07 17:04:17 PDT)

Okay, from the picture this doesn't look mint, but these are rare enough to list. A better stick for the CoCo.

3/19/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for March 19th, 2007:

Plenty of Color Computer Goodness out there, including a nice selection of vintage CoCo magazines. Some of these are ending soon, so jump in and get them while they're hot. Also, a lot of CoCo 2s and 3s listing lately. While most are not technically "notable" as far as collecting goes, they are certainly useful. One of the other guys may call these gems out, but even if not, do a thorough search. You'll probably come up with some great deals for hobby use!

eBay: GFL Championship Football II color computer coco (item 110105039586 end time Mar-25-07 17:28:54 PDT)

Nice looking pak with instructions and a clear clamshell case. The price seems right, if you need to add this one to the collection.

eBay: TRS 80 Color Computer Accessories/Games/Joysticks/etc!! (item 290095456244 end time Mar-24-07 18:09:28 PDT)

Giant lot of games, books and miscellaneous hardware. The seller doesn't catalog all the disks, but Text Pro IV and P51 Flight Simulator are both in there, among other goodies. On the rare manuals and books side we have Leventhal's 6809 manual, a 6809 Reference Card, the Motorolla 6809 manual and a couple of the Unraveled Books. Hardware includes a y-cable, CoCo Max hi-res pak and a Wico trackball (which by the way, is loads of fun to play with). Definitely worth a peek if you're looking for a big score to boost the collection a bit.

eBay: TRS 80 Color Computer 3 with 512 MB Expansion (item 290095449984 end time Mar-24-07 17:43:58 PDT)

Here's a 512K CoCo 3 in the original box with manuals. Seller doesn't mention which upgrade is in it, but these come up infrequently enough that I thought it was worth a mention.

eBay: Dual Half Height CoCo Compatible Drives w. Controller (item 280095060574 end time Mar-27-07 09:23:59 PDT)

Didn't this sell already? Maybe I'm going nuts, but could have swore this sold already.... Which will just teach me to update the Price Guide and Sales of Note more often, won't it. ha! Anyhow, an unusual dual vertical drives for the CoCo hooked up to a super rare Disto Mini Controller. The latter alone is worth the opening bid.

eBay: Complete Working Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer 2 (item 170092354929 end time Mar-23-07 16:32:26 PDT)

Large lot of CoCo 2 stuff with drives. Of interest to the collector will be the three boxes of diskettes. Kind of a grab bag, since alas, the seller does not list the disks' contents.

eBay: Rare Basic Computing The TRS-80 User Journal Magazines (item 230104939975 end time Mar-21-07 21:44:14 PDT)

Basic Computer started life as 80 US, I seem to recall. Don't quote me on that. Regardless, the magazine covered all TRS-80s, including the CoCo. Haven't seen these come much before, so worth a look!

eBay: Vintage Radio Shack TRS-80 2 w/37 pieces WORKS!! (item 140097040212 end time Mar-21-07 21:07:40 PDT)

This huge lot has a considerable amount of the old Tandy educational software with it. Some of it's actually fun to play with if you have kids. If you want to score a bulk of the edu-tainment stuff for the CoCo all at once though, have a looksee.

eBay: TRS-80 LEISURE SUIT LARRY 128 K DISK NO RESERVE (item 260097262387 end time Mar-21-07 20:17:31 PDT)

Okay, Leisure Suit Larry for the Color Computer 128K. I honestly don't remember this game being available for the CoCo. Starting price is high. I'd ask plenty of questions.

eBay: TRS-80 SHANGHAI COLOR COMPUTER 128 K NO RESERVE (item 260097259177 end time Mar-21-07 20:11:26 PDT)

One of the best CoCo 3 puzzle games. Comes as a pak. Here it is shrink wrapped.

eBay: Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer Disk Drive System (item 200089750936 end time Mar-21-07 19:51:42 PDT)

Occasionally a peek at an auction I normally would not list as notable as far as a collection goes turns up a gem or two. Okay, nice drive and certainly worth a look. The seller lists that it comes with COCOPACT 6.0 and COPACT 3 Version 1.0 disks. Don't know what those are, but they haven't appeared before! Also includes COCOPBBS 4.02 on disk, which is I'd guess as being a BBS software package. No mention of manuals for them, alas.

eBay: Vintage 80 US Magazines for TRS-80 - Jun 82 to Jun 83 (item 230104698062 end time Mar-21-07 14:17:07 PDT)

A nice run of 80 US in the early years. Also covered the Color Computer.

eBay: RADIO SHACK TRS-80 COLOR COMPUTER 2 LIKE NEW + 3 BOOKS (item 160095787130 end time Mar-20-07 19:01:18 PDT)

What appears to be an almost complete and nice looking 64K 26-3127 Color Computer 2.

eBay: Vintage Computronics Magazine TRS-80 computers 82-83 (item 230104119410 end time Mar-20-07 10:45:45 PDT)

Here's a TRS-80 magazine I haven't seen before. Couldn't say whether it covers the Color Computer or not, though. Ask questions.

eBay: Vintage TRS-80 Microcomputer News Magazines 81-83 (item 230104084121 end time Mar-20-07 09:17:14 PDT)

I rarely mention these because they're kind of common, but this is Tandy's own computer magazine. It did cover the CoCo... occasionally.

eBay: Vintage Computer User Magazine 83-84 TRS-80 computers (item 230103779691 end time Mar-19-07 14:28:39 PDT)

Another somewhat rare collection of magazines for the TRS-80, called Computer User. This magazine also covered the Color Computer from time-to-time.

eBay: Vintage Basic Computing Magazine 83-84 TRS-80 Users (item 230103774997 end time Mar-19-07 14:14:45 PDT)

More Basic Computing magazines. The seller actually mentions that it was formerly 80 US, so maybe my memory isn't entirely fried yet.

eBay: COLOR COMPUTER MAGAZINE, PREMIER THRU 10/84, short 4 (item 250096054395 end time Mar-25-07 18:27:49 PDT)

Big fat lot of Color Computer Magazine. Good magazine. From the pictures, these look to be in pretty good condition.

eBay: 10 ISSUES OF COLOR COMPUTER NEWS - 2 1982, 8 1983 (item 250093817355 end time Mar-19-07 15:55:55 PDT)

The always rare and, for the early CoCo collector, excellent Color Computer News.

3/9/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for March 9th, 2007:

eBay: *Collectables* TRS-80 Color Computer 2 Model:26-3027 (item 160092692571 end time Mar-12-07 22:26:33 PDT)

A very early 3027 with a low serial number. This is the 16K ECB version of the 3026. This one has the full 64K, the full profile keyboard, and some sort of composite video connector coming out it's arse. Hmmm... Seller doesn't mention upgrades, but it obviously is, so inquire if interested.

eBay: TRS 80 color computer games. Nevar been open (item 160092598579 end time Mar-10-07 16:14:37 PST)

Very nice lot of still sealed paks!

eBay: TRS 80 Color computer (item 160092591255 end time Mar-10-07 15:45:18 PST)

Here's a good looking estate sale find. An original left-label CoCo with one of the best looking boxes I've seen recently. Questions I'd ask would be cat no and serial no? What's the RAM button say? Are the Tandy labels intact? What BASIC ROM?

eBay: 5 Tandy coco colour computers w software hardware books (item 150098576591 end time Mar-12-07 00:53:15 PDT)

Interesting auction from Australia. Probably too much to ship, unless you're loaded, but worth looking at if you're Down Under!

eBay: Lot Motorola Hitachi 6809 8-bit Microprocessor 39Pcs (item 130085895090 end time Mar-12-07 15:28:32 PDT)

Nice fat lot of Motorola and Hitachi 6809s including the MC68B09EP (the CoCo 3 processor) and the Hitachi flavor of the same part. Theoretically these should work fine, but look up the specs sheets before you buy. As far as I know there are no differences between the Motorola and Hitachi parts (unlike the Hitachi 6309-based processors). Hitachi just picked up manufacturing the chip without modification from Motorola.

eBay: Lot of Motorola 6809 8-bit Microprocessor - 52 Pcs (item 130085899607 end time Mar-12-07 15:43:18 PDT)

Massive lot of Motorola 6809s. If you need replacements for original CoCos, or CoCo 2s, this would certainly keep yo going for awhile. Great for electronics projects as well.

eBay: TRS-80 Color Computer Multi-Pak Interface Tandy 26-3124 (item 110101605092 end time Mar-16-07 20:14:11 PDT)

Here's a usable (though untested) 25-3124 MPI. These have been going up considerably in price again lately, so I'll start noting them when I see them. This model would need to be upgraded to work on a CoCo 3 running OS-9.

3/4/07 Auctions of Note

Austions of note for March 4th, 2007:

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late. Been CoCo playing. And buying. More on that later, but just made a substantial investment in the ol' collection. Looking forward to cataloging it, and I'll share details when the pile of stuff arrives. :)

eBay: NOS 6309E CPU for TRS-80 Color Computer (HD63B09EP) (item 120093180206 end time Mar-12-07 11:25:02 PDT)

6309 replacement CPUs for the CoCo 3 for only $5.00?!? There's 12 available. Get 'em while their hot (and still around)!

eBay: Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 2 (item 290089091012 end time Mar-05-07 17:57:50 PST)

Early to mid-run CoCo 2 (judging from the manuals) in box. The CoCo itself looks a bit yellowed in the photos, but the paks included and manuals look good. Even the box appears in half-way decent condition.

eBay: Lot of Software/Games for Tandy Color Computer 3 (item 110097872073 end time Mar-07-07 16:21:48 PST)

Nice lot of CoCo 1/2 and 3 software for sale, all in original packaging with manuals. Biosphere is a personal favorite. One of the best and most unique strategy games made for the CoCo. I still fire this one up and enjoy the heck out of it. Highly recommended.

eBay: Lot of Vintage TRS-80 Computer Programs Manuals NIB (item 290088353341 end time Mar-05-07 19:17:39 PST)

Okay, I don't issue warnings much but... These are listed as NIB (New In Box) and are quite clearly not. Might be good for spares or usable copies, but the price is a bit high for that. There's always stuff that's priced to high, of course, but how close to you have to cut it before an auction claim simply comes out as a flat out falsehood. NIB my ass.

eBay: RADIO SHACK TANDY TRS-80 14 VIDEO GAME CARTRIDGE LOT (item 230095604596 end time Mar-06-07 19:00:14 PST)

Lot includes the rare Don Pan and Reactoid paks with instructions.

eBay: Rainbow magazine for the TRS-80 Color Computer Sept. 85 (item 260093523959 end time Mar-11-07 20:06:52 PDT)

This seller again has a large lot of The Rainbow on sale, listed individually. Good for filling in those holes in the collection.

eBay: VINTAGE~TANDY~COLOR COMPUTER (item 320088566257 end time Mar-09-07 18:50:01 PST)

Great looking CoCo 3 with box, packaging and manuals.

eBay: Tandy Color Computer 3 512 K RAM with game Vintage (item 270095520858 end time Mar-09-07 14:37:11 PST)

Another great looking, still in the wrapper CoCo 3. Seller says it's 512K but doesn't mention how that is known, so ask if it's a concern.

eBay: 6 - 1981 ISSUES OF RAINBOW MAGAZINE - COLOR COMPUTER (item 250089979679 end time Mar-08-07 19:53:43 PST)

Reprint run of the The Rainbow (the copied issues from Falsoft), first volume. Pretty rare stuff. Check this one because the seller has several runs, including the rare second year (also mostly reprint editions).

2/21/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for February 21st, 2007:

Hot dog! Hot damn! Hot CoCo! When the good stuff comes pouring in, it comes in a flood! Hang on cause this is quite a ride.

Brian hit some of these, but what the hell, let's hit 'em again (hey, the point of having multiple contributors is to get multiple points of view, right? Right.)

eBay: TRS-80 Programs Pokes Peeks 'n Execs Books (item 110095287656 end time Feb-26-07 20:38:15 PST)

The 500 POKEs, PEEKs 'N EXECs is worth its wait in gold easily. Great read and fun stuff to POKE your CoCo with. Some of it's even useful. :) The other is a newsletter from ICCC which is astonishingly rare. First one I've seen in, oh, 20 years or so...

eBay: 9 Cartridges for TRS-80 Color Computer Games Diagnostic (item 110095283336 end time Feb-26-07 20:18:42 PST)

Great looking, in the box with the 'structions collection of paks and one tape. Let's see, the Color Baseball is fun because you can control the ball with your joystick after you hit it. While the other player tries to chase it all over the screen with his pitcher. Hysterical! Gin Champion and 7 Card Stud are both fairly rare, and rarely seen in the box. And that's the boxed version of Zaxxon. It's usually seen in its Radio Shack version with a clamshell case.

eBay: Geography Pac, Viking, Color Diagnostics TRS-80 (item 110095280887 end time Feb-26-07 20:11:31 PST)

Okay, I don't know Viking. Thought it might be a Level II game, but apparently Prickly-Pear put it out. See it here on Curtis Boyle's games page: http://nitros9.lcurtisboyle.com/viking.html. All of these are exceedingly rare. (The one for the TDP-100, by the way, IS for the CoCo. TDP-100 was just another CoCo in a different box and sold through department style stores, mostly.)

eBay: Geography Pac Schematic Drafting Processor TRS-80 (item 110095279481 end time Feb-26-07 20:05:59 PST)

Spectrum Project's Schematic Drafting Processor by Tony DeStefano? Cool! :)

eBay: Musica 2 Utility Routines Graphicom Picture Disk TRS-80 (item 110095278328 end time Feb-26-07 20:01:44 PST)

Musica 2 is awesome and this one looks cherry. The Microcom Utility Routines is probably pretty interesting. And, of course, the ultra rare original CoCo graphics editor, Graphicom WITH picture disk. Shiver.... :)

eBay: The Voice Speech Synthesizer for Color Computer (item 110095274452 end time Feb-26-07 19:52:15 PST)

The VOICE, WITH the pak and WITH the manual, and WITH the original disk. Serious drool factor here.

eBay: Speech-Sound Pak TRS-80 Color Computer Cartridge (item 110095273441 end time Feb-26-07 19:48:31 PST)

Hot item here! This is the "white" Speech/Sound pak that looks great with the CoCo 3. Not to mention it looks like it's in pretty dang collectible condition as well.

eBay: Coco Max Hi-Res Input Module (item 110095271468 end time Feb-26-07 19:41:39 PST)

The original CoCo Max with the hi-res input pak. Very nice. Yum! This program pretty much changed the CoCo world. When it premiered, people's eyes popped out there heads, the drool went flying and everyone went "Wait, isn't that a Mac???" Blasphemy, I know, but it turned some heads the CoCo's way. :)

eBay: Tandy TRS-80 Touch Pad (item 110095267047 end time Feb-26-07 19:28:39 PST)

This is the Koala touch pad and it's great if you want to do graphics on your CoCo. This listing doesn't mention if the instructions are included and they aren't pictured, so inquire as needed.

eBay: 3 Load 80 Programs for TRS-80 Color Cassettes (item 110095259517 end time Feb-26-07 19:09:39 PST)

Here's another one I've never seen before. Didn't even know these existed! 80 Micro used to put out a cassette for the Model I/III called LOAD 80. Apparently, these are the CoCo versions of those tapes. Most excellent, highly collectible, and exceedingly rare. Drool Factor 10, Mr. Sulu!!!

eBay: 7 Instant CoCo Programs for TRS-80 Color Cassettes (item 110095256698 end time Feb-26-07 19:03:45 PST)

Another woody inducing rarity up for grabs. These are the tapes from Hot CoCo, still in the box! Even includes the elusive Best Of '83 tape! Oh, man, they don't get much hotter than this.

eBay: CoCo Logo with OS-9 Runtime - Disk and Manual (item 280085660777 end time Feb-26-07 08:09:57 PST)

Brian mentioned this one. This is the exceedingly rare (using that term a lot in this post) D.L. Logo for OS-9 Level 1. Logo was a simplified program language originally invented to teach kids basic programming theory. This version, however, from what I've been told, is a bit more serious. Same principles, and mostly graphically oriented, but a bit more powerful than the Color LOGO pak from Radio Shack. Note: This seller has a nice lot of OS-9 Level 1 stuff up for grabs. A bit pricey on the starting bids, perhaps, but worth a look if you need Level 1 stuff for your collection or use.

eBay: Very Rare Tandy COCO 3 512k Memory Expansion Card (item 200081993378 end time Feb-28-07 06:53:42 PST)

Brian also mentioned this one, and I'll throw in my two and half bits as well, from a collector's POV. Did I say EXCEEDINGLY RARE enough yet? Oh yeah. This is apparently the actual Tandy 512K upgrade from Radio Shack. The Shack was notorious for balking on selling these things direct (they did relent, usually, but you had to beg a little), until they started being sold through 3rd parties. So, finding one outside of a CoCo 3 is pretty rare. This is the first one I've seen up close. Oddities? The cutout in the upper-right fits around the RF shield over the video modulator circuitry, right? Okay, that's good, but what are the white expansion pins running along the right side and bottom left? Does the thing mount in upside down? Looks like it. Flipping it aligns the pins properly with the CoCo 3's mobo connectors, but then what's the cutout for (once flipped it would be on the upper-left and there's nothing there for it to fit around)? Probably just empty space they cut out of the PCB, of course. The Cloud-9 and PBJ upgrade boards I have both mount with the chips up. Am I thinking out loud again? 'Scuse me.

Sharkonwheels hits us in the schnoz again with these gems:

eBay: Ultra telepatch for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084824070 end time Feb-25-07 20:35:28 PST)

Telewriter 64 is still quite a usable word processor. With Ultra Telepatch, even more so! Great collectible, great usable item.

eBay: Coco Max II for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084822472 end time Feb-25-07 20:31:07 PST)

Step up to CoCo Max II, if you're still on CoCo Max I (and like me can't seem to score a CoCo Max 3 copy... sheesh!) This one includes the manual and original disk. II is actually pretty darn rare and doesn't come up as often as I or 3. Hmmm...

eBay: Coco Max for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084822203 end time Feb-25-07 20:29:35 PST)

Two copies of the original CoCo Max at the same time?!? Be still my heart! :) This one comes with the portfolio. Doesn't appear to have the hi res pak. I don't know if the pak is required to run the program. As always, inquire as always.

eBay: Color Max Deluxe for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084821637 end time Feb-25-07 20:25:58 PST)

Competing for the CoCo graphics love at the same time as CoCo Max was Color Max Deluxe. Great editor and by the time they hit their peak, this program truly gave CoCo Max a run for the money. This one never comes up, so jump on it accordingly. :)

eBay: Tandy TRS 80 Color Computer Disk Utilities Blackjack (item 270092143053 end time Feb-27-07 13:39:51 PST)

Danbee returns to CoCo listing with this huge lot of originals. Mostly utilities, all of them rare and all with manuals and their original packaging. Pee yourself, clean up, and then get thee to bidding!

eBay: Dual Half Height CoCo Compatible Drives w. Controller (item 280085048992 end time Feb-25-07 12:00:00 PST)

Nice looking non-Shack drives with the impossibly rare (see, I didn't say exceedingly) Disto Mini Controller. Boots duel DOSes (DOSs? DOSi?) and very sweet.

Whew! That's enough to exhaust the old bidding fingers, and the bank account, and the wife's patience with CoCo-love, for months! Happy bidding!

Another one of these. This is from the same seller as this auction: Tandy CoCo3 512K Memory Expansion Board!!! though this one has a different footprint...

2/20/07 Sales of Note

Sales of note for February 20th, 2007:

I haven't updated the Price Guide as much as I used to lately. Of course, there's the ever present lack of time to get it done. The other thing, though, is that many of the prices have held fairly steady. What I would like to do is get back to going through the old mags and adding stuff from the reviews and advertisements. That's always fun and it makes the list big and fat. :)

Anyhow, the Price Guide HAS been updated and can be found here:

http://coco.clubltdstudios.com/reference/cocopricelist.txt

eBay: TRS-80 Color computer 2 bundle (item 260086183953 end time Feb-18-07 19:49:48 PST)

This very nice and complete bundle, which Brian mentioned a few days ago, went for the very nice price of US$76.00. Definitely a highly usable 64K CoCo 2 set up with all the fixin's. Seller even through in a bonus disks and tapes.

eBay: Color Mouse for the Tandy 1000 Color Computer (item 290082582659 end time Feb-18-07 14:58:00 PST)

Holy crap! This loose Color Mouse went for $US $14.59. That's a bit above the recorded average of $1.00. :) However, these guys are getting slightly rarer and there has been some interest in it lately. No adjustments yet, but we'll keep an eye on it.

eBay: Lot 128k Tandy- Disk Drive FD-500 GAMES Books MORE! (item 230090620549 end time Feb-17-07 12:38:14 PST)

Awesome lot of original disk AND an FD-500. I almost cried when I didn't get to bid on these. heh! I couldn't guess at the price per item, but have noted some of the software as spotted in the Price Guide. Some of it I couldn't verify as actually being CoCo software ("Revenge of the Germs? Airwolf?") so I didn't include those.

eBay: Tandy CoCo3 512K Memory Expansion Board!!! (item 200077777041 end time Feb-15-07 19:31:51 PST)

The rare Performance Peripherals 512K memory upgrade for the CoCo 3 sold for US$33.25. Looks like a very interesting piece since it's design it a bit different from the Tandy and some other 512K upgrades. This one is square (no cutouts to get around the RF shield, so it must be pretty small... or stick off to the left or something. Neat sale!

eBay: TANDY'S COLOR COMPUTER TRS-80 3 SERVICE MANUAL (item 300078963541 end time Feb-13-07 22:38:17 PST)

A CoCo 3 Service Manual that went for US$21.51. There's been a steady rise in the bids on these.

eBay: Tandy Coco 3 New in Box (item 110088876959 end time Feb-12-07 14:05:30 PST)

A complete, still in the wrapper, American-built version of the CoCo 3. Very sweat, sold for US$67.53.

eBay: Speech/Sound Cartridge for the Color Computer (item 260082018543 end time Feb-06-07 19:35:30 PST)

Wonder if this one is going back up? Could be. Sold for US$42.00.

eBay: Lot of 16 TRS-80 Tandy Color Computer Games in CASE NR (item 120081594469 end time Feb-06-07 18:44:40 PST)

This big lot of paks with the rare Pak-File case sold for US$42.76. Always wanted a Pak-File, but just because it's big and clunky and so very 80s. :)

General Stuff

Most systems are coming down in price over the last two months, with both CoCo 2 and CoCo 3 systems selling slightly below average. Expect an adjustment in the Price Guide soon. Some great Color Computer stuff coming up lately, though! And plenty of good stuff to come I suspect. :)

2/18/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for February 18th, 2007:

Alas, a slow period. Which is a bit odd, because there does appear to be at least a few buyers, particularly for the common usable stuff. Not a lot to report but here's a few worth a look.

eBay: Tandy CoCo MC1372 TV Chroma / RF Modulator Chip IC (item 190084603153 end time Feb-21-07 18:44:00 PST)

This is actually a handy chip to have, particularly if you start getting video weirdos on the screen. This is one, of several, things to try replacing. Add in that you really can't find these any more, except in old CoCos, and it's definitely worth considering.

eBay: TANDY RADIO SHACK HOME PUBLISHER ( OS 9- I I ) OP-SYS. (item 300082068710 end time Feb-22-07 17:09:57 PST)

Relisted is this complete copy of Home Publisher. While not absolutely perfect, it would still make a nice addition to the collection.

eBay: Color Mouse for the Tandy 1000 Color Computer (item 290085193076 end time Feb-25-07 15:33:12 PST)

Nice color mouse, if you need one. Not the better of the two made for the CoCo, but certainly workable.

eBay: rare trs-80 game cartridges boxed trs80 5 in total (item 130081535986 end time Feb-25-07 11:32:15 PST)

Nice lot of paks. Backgammon, Checkers and Cyrus are all boxed and in exceedinly collectible condition.

eBay My World - 4js

This seller has a bunch of The Rainbow for sale, listed separately. Good auctions for filling in the holes.

And that's about it at the moment! Enjoy!

Quick update whilst scanning eBay

Buyer beware...

Vintage Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 1 with box !!

Well, this is not something that I like to see, someone passing a gray off as a white. While he admits it was formerly a gray, this is the third time this item has shown up on an eBay auction. Each time with a reserve and a Buy It Now for $99.99. (Edit since this part was a little uncalledfor)

Few short bits...

The good Captain has covered most items of interest lately leaving me to get the sloppy seconds...

Anyway, here are a few:

Lot 128k Tandy- Disk Drive FD-500 GAMES Books & MORE!

This pretty much covers everything a newbie would need to start their collection of CoCo goodness, IF they already have the CoCo3 as that does not seem to be included. However, that is ONE nice collection of softs...

Color Cubes TRS-80 Color Computer Game

Hehe, I remember this game all too well. the Rubik's cube simulator. I found the real thing to be much easier to work with...

Tandy CoCo3 512K Memory Expansion Board!!!

Here's a nifty fine item. I'd like this just for thehelluvit. But, got other things on the plate right now (buying a house for one...) so I hope some cocollector snatches it up!!!

TRS-80 Color computer 2 bundle

Couldn't let this little gem of a sale get by without notice. Pretty complete CoCo2 setup. Wonder if it'll continue the outrageous price streak CoCo2 systems seem to be bringing...

BTW, CaptainCPU, there's a message for you on my repack blog... :)

2/7/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for February 7th, 2007:

Boy time flies when you're having fun. I haven't been able to do a lot of bidding lately, and let me tell you, it's killing me. There's been some pretty good stuff up for grabs. As mentioned last time, there's plenty of CoCo 3s listed, which is very nice to see.

Don't forgot to pop by the CoCo Collector Message Board while you're out and about on the Net. Speaking of which, there's a slight glitch in the board. The EMAIL button attached to each user's profile and in their posts doesn't work. I don't know why and not sure when I'll get to fix it. In the meantime, the PM (Private Message) with notify feature works. Use that if you need to contact a board member and don't have their email addy.

Now on to the CoCo collecting goodness!

eBay: TANDY'S COLOR COMPUTER TRS-80 3 SERVICE MANUAL (item 300078963541 end time Feb-13-07 22:38:17 PST)

eBay: Tandy/Radio Shack Color Computer CoCo3 Service Manual (item 200076997881 end time Feb-13-07 17:28:29 PST)

Two CoCo 3 service manuals. These are packed full of all the technical guts of the Color Computer 3, including repair instructions, parts lists, and fold out circuit diagrams. Highly recommended for any CoCo collection or user that wants to know more about the hardware.

eBay: Rare Wico Command Control Joystick Adapter for TRS-80 (item 320080110881 end time Feb-13-07 17:54:58 PST)

These don't come up very often! This little box allows you to connect Atari-style joysticks to your CoCo. Always meant to build one of these things. There's instructions on the web for it (don't have the link handy... Brian sent it to me at one point... if you're interested, email and I'll dig it up). But this would certainly be simpler. And from a collector standpoint it's pretty rare. These were sold through several vendors in The Rainbow, Hot CoCo, The Color Computer Magazine and others. Great find. Went for about US$47.00 last time it came up.

eBay: TRS-80 CO CO ( 3 ) SUPER EXTENDED BASIC UNRAVELLED (item 300078606525 end time Feb-12-07 22:49:57 PST)

Super rare Unravelled (sic) book for the CoCo 3. (That word is traditionally spelled with one L, but the American Heritage Dictionary does offer the two L version as an alternative. And me being a dyslexic moron as far as spelling goes, who am I to complain. heh.) Anyhow, these are a) very rare and b) widely respected for being complete and useful. Worth a look.

eBay: EXTENDED ADOS 3 FOR TRS 80 COLOR COMPUTER (item 160082624382 end time Feb-12-07 22:46:55 PST)

eBay: ADOS FOR TRS 80 COLOR COMPUTER (item 160082624341 end time Feb-12-07 22:46:44 PST)

eBay: ADOS 3 FOR TRS 80 COLOR COMPUTER ADOS-3 (item 160082624295 end time Feb-12-07 22:46:33 PST)

I don't usually list copies for sale, only originals. However...
I'm thinking of bidding on these myself, and I always try to list the
things I'm thinking about trying for. Full disclosure and all that.
These do appear to come with the instructions as well, which is what is
of primary interest. I hope whoever wins these will scan the docs.
ADOS 3 is super rare, regardless, but copies are not considered in the
Collector or Price guide. Still... :)

eBay: Tandy Coco 3 New in Box (item 110088876959 end time Feb-12-07 14:05:30 PST)

A rather cherry and complete looking CoCo 3.

eBay: COLOR COMPUTER SECRETS REVELLED BY DISK"N DATA (item 300078265855 end time Feb-11-07 23:33:10 PST)

I've seen the ads, but never a copy of this rare book. Covers the original Color Computer, including the piggy back upgrade on the older 32K models. Doubt we'll be seeing this one again anytime soon.

eBay: HOT CoCo Magazine TRS-80 Color October 84 (item 260083642201 end time Feb-11-07 16:24:33 PST)

Copy of the (lately) scarce Hot CoCo Magazine. Get 'em while you can.

eBay: VINTAGE TANDY COLOR COMPUTER 3, VGC. WITH BOOKS, NR (item 280078484786 end time Feb-10-07 14:46:39 PST)

Another very nice looking CoCo 3.

eBay: TRS-80 CO CO APPLIANCE AND LIGHT CONTROLLER (item 300077593192 end time Feb-10-07 00:43:01 PST)

This one looks to be a complete, still in the package Appliance and Light Controller module for the CoCo. I remember having one of these way back (when I was about 12 or 13). Made my mother nuts when I unassed all the light switches and replaced them with the controller receptacles. Heh. Works well, though. I think they call this sort of thing X-10 or something like that now. No idea if it's compatible with the modern versions. Still a very nice collectible in this condition.

eBay: Tandy Coco 3 New in Box (item 110088876959 end time Feb-12-07 14:05:30 PST)

Very sweet "American Built" CoCo 3.

eBay: Lot of 8 VERY RARE Tandy Color Comp. (CoCo)3 GIME chips (item 200076415169 end time Feb-12-07 07:16:53 PST)

Exceedingly rare CoCo 3 GIME (pronounced "gimme" as in "give me") chips. These control the memory and video. Unless you pull them out of a CoCo 3, these don't appear very often.

eBay: 3 retro Rainbow Computer magazines Tandy Color Comput (item 290079384167 end time Feb-09-07 21:01:47 PST)

Three issue of Rainbow. Actually, I don't think I have that middle one. hmmm...

Speaking of CoCo 3s... :) Mark Martlette of Cloud-9 mentioned not to long ago on the CoCo mailing list that he had a few mint CoCo 3s. Now this is the strict definition of Mint. As in, the same condition they came out of the factor, sealed, never opened, like they just came off the shelf at the Shack kind of mint. He let slip that he'd sold one for about $400.00 to a collector. Now that's CoCo collecting. :)

Angel's Luck,

Capt.
