2/21/07 Auctions of Note

Auctions of note for February 21st, 2007:

Hot dog! Hot damn! Hot CoCo! When the good stuff comes pouring in, it comes in a flood! Hang on cause this is quite a ride.

Brian hit some of these, but what the hell, let's hit 'em again (hey, the point of having multiple contributors is to get multiple points of view, right? Right.)

eBay: TRS-80 Programs Pokes Peeks 'n Execs Books (item 110095287656 end time Feb-26-07 20:38:15 PST)

The 500 POKEs, PEEKs 'N EXECs is worth its wait in gold easily. Great read and fun stuff to POKE your CoCo with. Some of it's even useful. :) The other is a newsletter from ICCC which is astonishingly rare. First one I've seen in, oh, 20 years or so...

eBay: 9 Cartridges for TRS-80 Color Computer Games Diagnostic (item 110095283336 end time Feb-26-07 20:18:42 PST)

Great looking, in the box with the 'structions collection of paks and one tape. Let's see, the Color Baseball is fun because you can control the ball with your joystick after you hit it. While the other player tries to chase it all over the screen with his pitcher. Hysterical! Gin Champion and 7 Card Stud are both fairly rare, and rarely seen in the box. And that's the boxed version of Zaxxon. It's usually seen in its Radio Shack version with a clamshell case.

eBay: Geography Pac, Viking, Color Diagnostics TRS-80 (item 110095280887 end time Feb-26-07 20:11:31 PST)

Okay, I don't know Viking. Thought it might be a Level II game, but apparently Prickly-Pear put it out. See it here on Curtis Boyle's games page: http://nitros9.lcurtisboyle.com/viking.html. All of these are exceedingly rare. (The one for the TDP-100, by the way, IS for the CoCo. TDP-100 was just another CoCo in a different box and sold through department style stores, mostly.)

eBay: Geography Pac Schematic Drafting Processor TRS-80 (item 110095279481 end time Feb-26-07 20:05:59 PST)

Spectrum Project's Schematic Drafting Processor by Tony DeStefano? Cool! :)

eBay: Musica 2 Utility Routines Graphicom Picture Disk TRS-80 (item 110095278328 end time Feb-26-07 20:01:44 PST)

Musica 2 is awesome and this one looks cherry. The Microcom Utility Routines is probably pretty interesting. And, of course, the ultra rare original CoCo graphics editor, Graphicom WITH picture disk. Shiver.... :)

eBay: The Voice Speech Synthesizer for Color Computer (item 110095274452 end time Feb-26-07 19:52:15 PST)

The VOICE, WITH the pak and WITH the manual, and WITH the original disk. Serious drool factor here.

eBay: Speech-Sound Pak TRS-80 Color Computer Cartridge (item 110095273441 end time Feb-26-07 19:48:31 PST)

Hot item here! This is the "white" Speech/Sound pak that looks great with the CoCo 3. Not to mention it looks like it's in pretty dang collectible condition as well.

eBay: Coco Max Hi-Res Input Module (item 110095271468 end time Feb-26-07 19:41:39 PST)

The original CoCo Max with the hi-res input pak. Very nice. Yum! This program pretty much changed the CoCo world. When it premiered, people's eyes popped out there heads, the drool went flying and everyone went "Wait, isn't that a Mac???" Blasphemy, I know, but it turned some heads the CoCo's way. :)

eBay: Tandy TRS-80 Touch Pad (item 110095267047 end time Feb-26-07 19:28:39 PST)

This is the Koala touch pad and it's great if you want to do graphics on your CoCo. This listing doesn't mention if the instructions are included and they aren't pictured, so inquire as needed.

eBay: 3 Load 80 Programs for TRS-80 Color Cassettes (item 110095259517 end time Feb-26-07 19:09:39 PST)

Here's another one I've never seen before. Didn't even know these existed! 80 Micro used to put out a cassette for the Model I/III called LOAD 80. Apparently, these are the CoCo versions of those tapes. Most excellent, highly collectible, and exceedingly rare. Drool Factor 10, Mr. Sulu!!!

eBay: 7 Instant CoCo Programs for TRS-80 Color Cassettes (item 110095256698 end time Feb-26-07 19:03:45 PST)

Another woody inducing rarity up for grabs. These are the tapes from Hot CoCo, still in the box! Even includes the elusive Best Of '83 tape! Oh, man, they don't get much hotter than this.

eBay: CoCo Logo with OS-9 Runtime - Disk and Manual (item 280085660777 end time Feb-26-07 08:09:57 PST)

Brian mentioned this one. This is the exceedingly rare (using that term a lot in this post) D.L. Logo for OS-9 Level 1. Logo was a simplified program language originally invented to teach kids basic programming theory. This version, however, from what I've been told, is a bit more serious. Same principles, and mostly graphically oriented, but a bit more powerful than the Color LOGO pak from Radio Shack. Note: This seller has a nice lot of OS-9 Level 1 stuff up for grabs. A bit pricey on the starting bids, perhaps, but worth a look if you need Level 1 stuff for your collection or use.

eBay: Very Rare Tandy COCO 3 512k Memory Expansion Card (item 200081993378 end time Feb-28-07 06:53:42 PST)

Brian also mentioned this one, and I'll throw in my two and half bits as well, from a collector's POV. Did I say EXCEEDINGLY RARE enough yet? Oh yeah. This is apparently the actual Tandy 512K upgrade from Radio Shack. The Shack was notorious for balking on selling these things direct (they did relent, usually, but you had to beg a little), until they started being sold through 3rd parties. So, finding one outside of a CoCo 3 is pretty rare. This is the first one I've seen up close. Oddities? The cutout in the upper-right fits around the RF shield over the video modulator circuitry, right? Okay, that's good, but what are the white expansion pins running along the right side and bottom left? Does the thing mount in upside down? Looks like it. Flipping it aligns the pins properly with the CoCo 3's mobo connectors, but then what's the cutout for (once flipped it would be on the upper-left and there's nothing there for it to fit around)? Probably just empty space they cut out of the PCB, of course. The Cloud-9 and PBJ upgrade boards I have both mount with the chips up. Am I thinking out loud again? 'Scuse me.

Sharkonwheels hits us in the schnoz again with these gems:

eBay: Ultra telepatch for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084824070 end time Feb-25-07 20:35:28 PST)

Telewriter 64 is still quite a usable word processor. With Ultra Telepatch, even more so! Great collectible, great usable item.

eBay: Coco Max II for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084822472 end time Feb-25-07 20:31:07 PST)

Step up to CoCo Max II, if you're still on CoCo Max I (and like me can't seem to score a CoCo Max 3 copy... sheesh!) This one includes the manual and original disk. II is actually pretty darn rare and doesn't come up as often as I or 3. Hmmm...

eBay: Coco Max for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084822203 end time Feb-25-07 20:29:35 PST)

Two copies of the original CoCo Max at the same time?!? Be still my heart! :) This one comes with the portfolio. Doesn't appear to have the hi res pak. I don't know if the pak is required to run the program. As always, inquire as always.

eBay: Color Max Deluxe for Color Computer *NR* (item 220084821637 end time Feb-25-07 20:25:58 PST)

Competing for the CoCo graphics love at the same time as CoCo Max was Color Max Deluxe. Great editor and by the time they hit their peak, this program truly gave CoCo Max a run for the money. This one never comes up, so jump on it accordingly. :)

eBay: Tandy TRS 80 Color Computer Disk Utilities Blackjack (item 270092143053 end time Feb-27-07 13:39:51 PST)

Danbee returns to CoCo listing with this huge lot of originals. Mostly utilities, all of them rare and all with manuals and their original packaging. Pee yourself, clean up, and then get thee to bidding!

eBay: Dual Half Height CoCo Compatible Drives w. Controller (item 280085048992 end time Feb-25-07 12:00:00 PST)

Nice looking non-Shack drives with the impossibly rare (see, I didn't say exceedingly) Disto Mini Controller. Boots duel DOSes (DOSs? DOSi?) and very sweet.

Whew! That's enough to exhaust the old bidding fingers, and the bank account, and the wife's patience with CoCo-love, for months! Happy bidding!

Angel's Luck,

Capt.
