8/23/06 Auctions of Note

I can eat again! "Collector needs food badly!" (Can you tell I've been playing too much of the GLOVE demo... with my own sound effects added, of course. heh!)

Auctions of note for August 23rd, 2006:

3 Tandy Colour Computer games, vgc

Our CoCo collector eye in the U.K., Dragon Dragon, has spotted these rare ones! Rommel's Revenge and Cricket are terribly rare (and Zaxxon is no slouch, either). While not a full endorsement, I will say that some the best software I have for my original CoCo came out of the UK. I just snagged another lot of Microdeal cassettes from an eBayer in the U.K. and am having a blast playing them. These too sound like winners to me! :) (And thanks to Dragon Dragon for the heads up!) Outside of the U.K. you would need to inquire with the seller, of course, as the listing appears to be in country only as stated.

Shanghai Cartridge for the CoCo 3 by Activision

Shanghai for Color Computer 3 coco

Couple of Shanghai paks in the box up for grabs. This is an outstanding CoCo 3 only pak that really shows off an RGB monitor. Particularly if you're bleary eyed from whacking away on a CoCo 1 or 2 on a TV set all day. :) It's particular nice using the Justus VGA adapter, and I can't wait to see it on the Hawksoft S-Video adapter. Was that enough plugs for one post? :) Ahem. Collectibility wise, they both look to be in Good to Very Good, though neither appears to be complete (see link above at The CoCo Hut for the full package contents).

I count at least 5 plugs so far. I'm just in a "spead the good word" mood. :)

Assembly Language Graphics for the TRS -80 CoCo

Here's a rather rare, and splendidly useful, book on assembly language graphics. Very nice looking too!

Disk Drive Watch:

Trs-80 Coco

Not sure what the seller was going for with the listing title, but this drive should work on the CoCo if you add a proper controller and cable. Doesn't look new to me, but the photos aren't that good, so who knows. This was not originally sold as a CoCo drive, probably as an external drive for the white case Model III. As always, inquire before buying.

TRS-80 COLOR COMPUTER CASSETTE CABLE

Note a collectible, per se, but it would be nice to see more of this homemade stuff show up on eBay from time-to-time. These cables work with the cassette recorder, of course, BUT you CAN also use them to record sounds coming out of your CoCo's cassette port as well (which is a cheap and easy way to transfer and archive stuff to your PC as .WAV files), or for hooking up to a CD player. Yup, you can record your CoCo programs to a CD using your PC and play them back on the CD player directly into your CoCo. Haven't tried it myself, but should be pretty simple. Anyhoo, having one or two extras of these cables around is not a bad idea.

VINTAGE TANDY 64K COLOR COMPUTER 2 26-3127B

I'm probably overly fond of this Cat No, because it's the one I had as a lad, but it is a top notch CoCo 2. It does actual lowercase, with the right POKing, as well. Not collectible condition, but a fine CoCo to play on. In fact, I think I'll go dig mine out and play with it. heh! :)

Radio Shack TRS-80 computer recorder printer games

A nice lot at a nice price, particularly with those with youngsters in the house. If you've been holding off buying a CoCo 2 to play with because of the whacky pricing lately, you won't go wrong having a look at this one. The shipping is quite generous! (And the printer included is the CGP-115, and is still a blast to play with, if you can afford the pens.)

TRS-80 color computer, multipak speech pad books TRS 80

Very nice lot, which speaks for itself. Have a look!

TRS-80 - H&E Computronics Magazine - 5 Issues - RARE!!!

A rather lovely lot of this rather rare magazine. Couldn't tell you for sure, though, if it has any CoCo stuff in it.

TANDY TRS-80 64K Color Computer w/ Software Disk Drive

Hefty starting bid, but the shipping is way more than reasonable. Of particular note are the casettes in their original plastic baggies!!! You just don't see that much any more. :)

In the funny department (or really sad, depending on your POV):

ATARI 520ST,COMMODOR 64,

This was listed in the TRS-80 listings (and only in the TRS-80 listings). heh! Actually, those monitors might work on a CoCo. Maybe. And it's a heck of a good price for that 520ST, if you're into that sort of thing. Come to think of it... I don't have a 520ST... hmmm. :) (The Commie would make a nice door stop, or a silly mod/repack project for the twisted CoCoist. Pack it with an MC-10. heh!)

Mislisted:

tandy color computer 3 super pitfall spectaculator lot

The Super Pitfall pak looks complete in the package. Not a terribly common pak to begin with, so worth a look if you need it for the ol' pile o' CoCo swag.

Vintage Tandy Color computer 3 with box manuals game

Another mislisted CoCo 3 that includes the manuals. Worth a look.

Wizards Quest by Microdeal for Dragon 32 & Tandy 32K

Draconian by Microdeal for Tandy TRS-80 32K Colour

Yeah! I get to plug Microdeal cassettes again! :D Wizard's Quest is a pretty neat arcade style game. Enjoyed it and well executed. Draconian I haven't acquired. Yet.

3 SPECTRALIGHT CNC SERVO STEPPER MOTOR & WIRING &TRS-80

For the gadget lover (with money to burn). This should work. Theoretically. :)

Drat! I wonder which monitors they are. Cloud-9 sells an adaptor for the Commodore 1084S, but not one for the Atari monitors. Alas. Ah well. Still an ST for 99 cents ain't bad. :)

Yow, yup that's a lot for shipping. If the stuff actually works it's probably about right though. Particularly with two heavy monitors. Too bad he listed it the TRS-80 category. heh.

Good info, and many thanks.

To be honest, now that there's both SVGA and S-Video adapters for the CoCo, there's not a lot of reason to snag a vintage display unless for a) collection or b) you get a steal on it. I do enjoy my CM-8 for classic retro fun, beats the heck out the old 13" color TV I grew up with... but for real CoCoing, VGA rocks. :) (And just received the Hawksoft S-Video adapter today. Will post a report as soon as I can wrestle the big TV away from my daughters and Blue's Clues.)

Angel's Luck,
Capt
